#graphic-design-is-my-passion
...except for Brooke.
Recently we’ve been thinking a lot about how we incorporate grids into our projects and the design system we’re updating.
There are lots of sites out there that uses grids well. They can be about anything - from the future of supermarkets to a breathing loading thing or something about selling rackets.
Oh and we liked the new Gawker site. Not only the design, but its content too.
On a more web design/UX side of things, get excited about a new feature coming to Figma and assume all users are a Homer Simpson.
We have treats! Treat yourself to some some eye-pleasing animations, maybe this, this, this or this. Tell us which is your fave.
#code-city
After a brief hiatus #code-city is back, sorry nerds.
If you're into painting and shit but don't want to paint or shit, Adnaan's got you. Some nerds have been experimenting with AI generated art by combining CLIP with generative adversarial networks (aka translating data into images) to create an output. You can have a crack locally here.
This week Lane shared some tips 'n’ tricks for previewing Sanity draft content using views and split panes.
You can also create a shareable link to preview drafts on your front-end as you edit content in Sanity. We recently started rolling this out and it's worth checking out.
Online Store 2.0 was also announced at the latest Shopify Unite. A few things that caught our eye were the new dev tools:
- Shopify GitHub integration
- Shopify CLI for themes
Lane wrapped things up by cleaning up some of our old projects:
#vibe
110% of our studio is currently in lockdown so any wellness tips were greatly appreciated this week. The RZA’s guided explorations went down a treat. Honeyboy spoke for all of us with the:
Post wellness session studio vibes were hitting fever pitch off the back of QANTAS’ announcement to slowly drip feed AU/NZ the ability to fly to *checks notes* Fiji, Singapore, USA, Japan, and Canada in Mid December. Brooke really summed up the mood:
Special thanks to Brooke for really carrying the team w her highly exciting media contributions.
#processes-and-platforms
Zoe’s all about the customisation in Figma this week, she has a bunch of plugins for us to get amongst. Batch Styler does what you’d think, and Style Organiser also keeps its promises.
Adam Brock continues to transform designers into developers, he’s kinda like a Fairy Godmother played by Nicholas Cage. Bannerify bannerifies banners which is perfect when you have exactly a fuckload to turn into codes.
We’re talking about learning lots too (duh?). How do we stay up to date and get the most out of what we’re reading? Here’s our latest solution. More to come on that actually..
While we’re here, does anyone have the log in details for designer@? Can someone help Brooke clean out our inbox?
